How It Works

So you want a second set of eyes. Congratulations! You’re on the way to making your writing truly effective. Here’s how things work at Sirius Prose.

(1) E-mail us with a sample page of your document, along with a word count for the entire document. Inquiries are also welcomed. Please let us know what level of service you are interested in:

Light Copyediting: This is suggested for a polished piece of work in the last stages of editing. We’ll check for grammar, spelling, capitalization, and punctuation errors, as well as typos of all sorts. This costs $4.00 per page.

Heavy Copyediting: This is suggested if you are already confident with your piece, but want help making it a finished product. With this service, in addition to the above proofreading, we will do light fact-checking, fix awkward phrasing, and give wording suggestions. This costs $10.00 per page.

Substantive editing: This includes all services mentioned above, as well as heavier fact-checking, revising certain sections of your piece, and making structural changes such as moving paragraphs around. This costs $15.00 per page.

Proofreading: Do you have a nearly finished project that just needs one last set of eyes? As proofreaders, we will check your laid-out proofs against the edited manuscript for typographical or formatting errors. We will also check for any minor grammatical or spelling errors that the copyeditor might have missed. This costs $4.00 per page.

Writing and Ghostwriting: Don’t have the time, energy, or ability to write the material yourself right now? We do. Please inquire for more information.

Please note that we follow the rate standards of the Editorial Freelancer’s Association. We consider a page to be 250 words.

(2) You’ll receive a response to your e-mail within two business days with some basic comments, including a time and price estimate.

(3) We require prepayment (except from publishers). As soon as we receive your check, money order or online credit card payment, we’ll get started.

(4) We can either edit the piece electronically (using the “track changes” option in Word) or send you a traditionally marked hard copy via snail mail. We’ll always, always return your piece by the agreed-upon deadline.
